Written in dual perspective, These Broken Stars is about two main characters, Lilac LaRoux, daughter of the richest man in the universe, and Tarver Merendsen, a young war hero, who crash land on a mysterious planet and journey across the eerie, strange terrain in hopes of finding rescue. Although this story is written by two authors, I never once felt a shift in writing style. Everything flowed cohesively and the two points of view were clear distinct voices. This is a slow moving novel because it deals with survival however, it never once got dull. There were strange occurrences which took place on the planet and this mystery peaked my curiosity and because of this, I couldn’t stop reading. This book definitely had a variety of scenes, some of which were hilarious and others which were achingly beautiful that it tugged on your heartstrings. Like seriously guys, there were moments were I need a hug lol:
It has a few bits of action, well-developed romance, intriguing mystery and suspense and overall, it was a fantastic read so I had to give it a 5/5 rating.
1. Lilac LaRoux – Pretty much a princess due to her background, however there is more to her than one might think. In the beginning she did seem to be a bit cold but as the novel progresses, we do learn that there are reasons for her actions. Even though she does appear to be a spoiled princess, she undergoes tremendous character development and I ended up really liking her in the end.
2. Tarver Merendensen – I loved Tarver from the very beginning even though he did have his flaws; however, he did possess the strength to survive and protect and care for Lilac despite her stubbornness. This boy has some serious sass and even though he doesn’t directly say the things he is thinking, it was pretty hilarious to read them. I approve Tarver 🙂
This novel is a young adult survival story but it is written in a way that we as readers would completely immerse ourselves within this strange world and also end up connecting with the characters. I was also quite thankful that there was no insta love in this novel. The relationship between the characters grew steadily from friendship to respect and finally a deep love and understanding of one another. I also enjoyed the tremendous amounts of creepiness and mystery within this planet since is had me completely captivated. The weird paranormal occurrences had me completely curious and I wanted to know more. I also did find myself becoming so attached to these characters especially 2/3 of the way into the book since they do go through a lot of hardships and you can’t help but feel for them. I absolutely loved how the characters cared for one another and would do anything to protect each other.
Even in the most extreme situations, the beauty of humanity is that we can always find a flicker of hope and strength within ourselves.
I LOVED THIS BOOK! This has become one of my favorite books of all time. I will end up reading the companion novels sometimes in the future as well. But if any of you guys are interested in survival stories and science fiction novels you should definitely pick this one up!
