The Birthstone Book Tag

I wanted to try something fun today so I decided on the Birthstone Book Tag! This tag was created by Jay G.  If  you like to do the tag then consider yourself tagged! Leave your link in the comments and I will definitely check them out 🙂

January (GARNET):
Associated with warding off negative forces and dark energies – Name a book with the darkest/evilest character you can think of.

For me it’s definitely the Commandant from An Ember in the Ashes. This woman is just pure evil with no room for redemption at all. I have never been so scared for characters in a book until I read this one. I was literally trembling in certain scenes, OMG my heart!

February (AMETHYST):
Purple is associated with royalty – Name a book with regal qualities… You can base this off of characters of choose the King of all books

A book associated with Royalty would probably be Red Queen. Everything within this story basically takes place within the palace once Mare, our main character is forced to live with the elite through the order of the King. We also see more than just figures of royalty but also the politics within the Monarchy.

March (AQUAMARINE):
Washed out – Name a ‘wishy washy’ character, a character who is not strong or a follower

For me it wasn’t one character but a group of characters in book: 172 Hours on the Moon. Now, the book is AWESOME in terms of its thrilling aspect in the second half. However, I was not particularly connected to the main characters: Mia, Midori and Antoine. I did not see any depth to the characters other than they were teenagers and for that reason, they didn’t really appeal to me.

April (DIAMOND):
A diamond in the rough – Name a book that you loved but is not well known

Definitely Dark Inside. I have no idea why no one on booktube has ever mentioned it since it was just an awesome read. It was one of the books which got me out of my reading slumps. It deals with a group of kids trying to survive an apocalypse with deranged humans/zombies, and OMG SO GOOD! It may seem like a typical YA Dystopian book but what I like is that the author did not take the normal route for the reason behind the ending of the world, she added her own interesting twist to it which was pretty cool.

May (EMERALD):
Said to balance energy – Name two characters who balance each other well

Kaz and Inej from Six of Crows – I really feel like the two grow stronger with each others guidance. Kaz helped make Inej stronger with her freedom and Inej helped Kaz with her faith and morals.

June (PEARL):
Associated with loyalty – Name a character who is loyal to the end

A loyal character for me would be Minho from The MazeRunner. He stands firmly by Thomas’ side no matter what crazy dilemma they may be facing and he is willing to place his friends first before anything.

July (RUBY):
Blood red – Name a book that made your blood boil, one that made you angry

I wouldn’t say this book made me angry but it did make me very disappointed since I expected more: Monument 14. The characters were quite lackluster and less appealing so I pretty much stopped with the first book.

August (PERIDOT):
Pale green (it pales in comparison to other gems) – Name a supporting character who you like better than the main character

ERMAGAWD! This would definitely be Kenji from the Shatter Me series. He is just so hilarious and the comic relief he brings to the book always puts a smile on my face. He also has a different mature side to him which I admire, especially with that one scene in the second book, Unravel Me, where he confronts the main character about her actions. He is such a great friend with the right balance of traits in a character 🙂

September (SAPPHIRE):
Blue like the ocean which is calming – Name a book that had a calming affect on you

DOON 🙂 Maybe this is because of the Scotland setting but my heart felt at ease when I was reading this book. A quick, simple read with great swoon worthy romance 🙂

October (OPAL): Iridescent
Name an iridescent book, this can be a book with a beautiful cover (Shiny? Lots of color?) or you can base it off of a character (Quirky? Colorful?)

These Broken Stars. I mean, it was just gorgeous with the beautiful night sky with the stars in the background along with Lilac and Tarver. So pretty 🙂

November (TOPAZ):
Associated with resilience – Name a books with a character who rises to the top in a time of adversity

Girl on Fire: Katniss Everdeen 🙂

December (BLUE ZIRCON):
Associated with friendship – Name a book with a friendship you want to be apart of

For me, it would be friendships within two books: Harry Potter and the MazeRunner. Maybe it’s because it was my childhood but the characters of Harry Potter would always remain close to my heart throughout my existence. Who wouldn’t want to be friends with Harry, Ron and Hermione? They have magical powers!

The MazeRunner is another book with a great friendship which is one of the reasons why I enjoyed it so much. I just feel like I would be safe with Thomas, Minho and Newt. Yes, they do tend to end up in crazy situations but they got each others back! Plus, Minho and Newt are just BAE ❤
