Thank You, Next Book Tag

Hello everyone! It’s time for a book tag!!! And for today’s post, I will be doing the Thank You, Next Book Tag. I was not tagged in this one but saw this on Jananie channel thisstoryaintoverย and I thought it would be super fun! This tag is based on Ariana Granda’s song Thank You, Next. Enjoy! ๐Ÿ™‚

  1. Name a book that you said โ€œthank u, nextโ€ to, i.e. DNFโ€™d (did not finish):

Monument 14 by Emmy Laybourne – I am so sorry, but this book was not for me. I read this a long time ago since the dystopian element did draw me into the plot but I wasn’t able to relate to the characters and I ended up finding a lot of flaws while reading it so I ended up DNFing it.

The next three questions can be answered together or separately with completely different books.

2. Name a book that taught you love (i.e. a book you loved)

Doon series by Carey Corp and Lorie Langhorn – I’m not sure if this series is well known to the book community but it was something I was recommended by abookutopia and I couldn’t help but be enchanted by the premise. The entire series is quite lighthearted but it also has an aspect of adventure, romance, andย  the wonder of being transported to a different world which is probably why I loved it so much. It was what I primarily look for in books: an escape. Plus, the Scotland setting and the male leads were a huge plus in my book!

3. Name a book that taught you patience.

A Gathering of Shadows by V.E Schwabb – Now the Darker Shade of Magic series is one of my favorite series of all time. Having said that, I will say that the second book to the series does have a slow pace, especially in the beginning. I still enjoyed reading the book but it took a long time for the plot to thicken and drive the story forward. However, I didn’t think too much of it since I understand that the author had probably done this to add more layers to the characters.

4. Name a book that taught you pain.

A Reaper at the Gates by Sabaa Tahir – I have no choice but to list a repeat from the original video because this book brought SO MUCH EMOTIONAL PAIN. You have no idea. I just want all my characters – Laia, Helene and my luv Elias to be happy! iS THAT TOO MuCH to ASK???? I JUST CAN’T OMG.

5. Name a book that you loved at the time of reading but in hindsight you do not like as much anymore but which you still learned some other quality from.

Twilight by Stephanie Meyer – This is probably an unpopular opinion but in the beginning when I picked up Twilight, I will admit it was because I was curious about the movie release and I wanted to know what it was about. For some reason, I did not fall into the fandom. To add to that, I do believe that my reading taste have changed over the years so when I attempted to do a re-read, I just couldn’t bring myself to like it as much. Maybe because I have ventured into other novels and genres which peaked my interest and I had gotten used to different writing styles or characters that it was not the same anymore. However, I will say that this series is one worth of recognition since it brought many people to read books and that itself is a huge accomplishment ๐Ÿ™‚

6. Name a book youโ€™re currently talking to, i.e. have the hots for.ย

Stalking Jack the Ripper – Recently, I have been into mystery novels and this was the book that started it! Everything about the setting, the characters and plot was just so well done! And I guess the majority of the reason why could be because of Thomas but I’m not complaining ๐Ÿ™‚

7. Name the book that gonโ€™ last โ€“ the book of you โ€“ the book that helped you love yourself a little bit more.

Cress (actually the entire Lunar Chronicles) – I read this series during the most difficult moments of my life and it really did help to lift my spirit and help me to become more positive. Moreover, it also urged me to speak up against those who were constantly judging me or pushing me to corners where I did not want to be and overall taught me to love myself.

(But I do have to give some credit to BTS and their music as well HAHA And speaking of which they have an album coming on April 12th AND UR GURL IS HYPE! And it was just released today that they are nominated for Top Group/Duo and Top Social Artist for the Billboard Music Awards YAYYYY Go team Go!!!ย )

  2. Thank you so much for tagging me! I really appreciate it! Since I don’t do too many Book Tags on my blog though, would you mind if I do a variation on my Bookstagram instead? And I can tag you there so you can see ๐Ÿ™‚

  4. The Lunar Chronicles are so amazing! And Marrissa Meyer is so nice!!! I met her at a book signing once and I almost died. ๐Ÿ˜

I’ve always been curious about Twilight, but I think I might have passed the age to appreciate them?

I LOVED STALKING JACK THE RIPPER!!! Well, except the one part that I will refrain from writing about because spoilers. Need to get to book 2 one of these days.

And Ember in the Ashes is one I need to get to… 2019 will be the year, for sure.

Thanks for the tag!!!! Looking forward to it. ๐Ÿ˜„๐Ÿ˜„๐Ÿ˜„

    • OMG rly? That’s so cool! LOL SAME. If I ever got the chance to speak with her, I would probably be a bundle of nerves! hahaha

Hmmm you can give the Twilight series a try and see if it is for you. I do think you are right tho. My reading taste has evolved over time and I think I am at the age where it does not interest me as much it would have years ago.

YAYYYYY Another Stalking Jack the Ripper reader! Whoohoooo I actually just finished reading the second book and OMG I loved it more than the first!!! โค

Ooooo I really hope you have a chance to read an Ember in the Ashes this year. It's definitely a thrilling fantasy read and it's now one of my favorite series of all time! ๐Ÿ™‚

And No problem! Have fun with the tag!! ๐Ÿ™‚

      • I was a total bundle of nervousness, but she was nice about my awkwardness haha. Got a photo with her and it makes me happy just looking at it.

I used to be obsessed with vampires (like most of us book girls were, lol), but there was just so many mixed things said about Twilight that I wasn’t sure. I’d like to think I would enjoy it, but I’m not as big a vampire fan as I once was. :-/

Yessss for Stalking Jack The Ripper! I actually listened to it on audiobook, and it really made the story come alive. I hope I enjoy the sequel too!!! โค And the third book (which has a gorgeous cover). Is there supposed be a fourth?

I own Ember in the Ashes, so I hope to get the chance to. Actually, I'm in an awful reading slump (Legendary did this to me *cries*), so I might give it a try to see if it pulls me out because I can't mentally leave Caraval…

About to do the tag. Thanks again!!

      • That’s so awesome! It great you have a moment like that with your favorite author!

Hmm . . . well if I ever plan on doing a re-read then I will definitely try the audiobook for sure! I am planning on doing a review for the second book so I can unleash all my feels hahaha Can’t wait to start the third! Yes, there is a fourth – I think it’s called Capturing the Devil and it is targeted to be released end of the year! ๐Ÿ™‚

Awww reading slumps are the worst. Sometimes, it helps to either take a break and then jump back into the reading game or even try different books and see which ones capture your attention. I’ve been through those days too! I get the feeling for sure!

And I did read your answers to the tag! It was awesome! โค

        Liked by 1 person

      • Yes. I’m so grateful for that moment for sure. โค

Yes, the audiobook was gold. I'm going to try and listen to book 2 sometime soon. I hope Thomas remains just as awesome!

They really are the worst. I feel like I'm betraying all of my unread books… Going to go through them this evening and just see which ones look exceptionally amazing. There's some on my Kindle that I've been interested in, but it's dead and I've just been procrastinating charging it lol.

Thanks again for tagging me with it. So much fun! Going to try to get to the BTS one sometime soon, too. Just depends on life. Happy Reading!
